Don’t Buy a Skincare Fridge! Here’s Why

If you’re thinking about investing in a skincare fridge, chances are you care a lot about your skin. You’ve done your research and you know that keeping skincare cool helps to keep it fresh and effective.  

But while your heart is in the right place, your wallet is not. Before you splurge on that adorable little refrigerator, let’s sit down and have a chat.  

Imagine your favorite fruit--or vegetable, we’re equal opportunity produce fans around here--and think about all that it has to offer. Rich in vitamins and minerals, your fruit of choice is ready to nourish you as soon as it's harvested.  

But imagine that you’re not ready to eat the fruit yet. Say you set it down on the ground and leave it there for a few months. The sun beats down on your poor defenseless fruit as it loses its nutrients and withers away.  

Then, when you’re finally ready for your fruit, you pick up its sad, lifeless husk and deposit it in your refrigerator.  

Now let us ask you a question. When you go to retrieve your fruit from the fridge, will it have magically returned to the vibrant, nourishing produce you plucked from the tree a few months ago?  Of course not.  

Do you see where we’re going with this? Putting your store bought skincare in the fridge is an admirable effort, but you’re a little late to the game. You’re putting a dry, brown pomegranate on ice and hoping for luscious, juicy seeds.

Start With the Right Skincare 

This isn’t to say you aren’t on the right track with the whole cold thing. Keeping skincare cold does work. In fact, cold actually preserves skincare’s effectiveness better than conventional preservatives.  

But what you need is skincare that’s kept cold from the moment it’s made. And it should be made from ingredients that were also kept cold before they became skincare.  

Basically, anything that goes on your skin should not have seen the sun since it was growing beneath it.  

That way, by the time it gets to you, your skincare is still a lush and juicy pomegranate. And here’s the kicker: refrigerating it isn’t even necessary. As long as you’re using your skincare daily, you’ll run out of it before it needs to be refrigerated.
